Future dates

The National Portrait Gallery houses one of the world's greatest portrait collections. As a collection of British portraits, it is also one of the best places to learn about British history. Each class combines elements of portraiture with the period of British history represented by a group of portraits.

The course follows the Gallery's displays, which are arranged by period: Tudors, Stuarts, Georgians and Regency, Victorians, and twentieth-century and contemporary works. Leslie introduces the history of art in Britain as background to the portraits. The course includes a visit to the current temporary exhibitions; tickets are not included in the course fee.
